The Government of Canada is streamlining the procurement of workplace technology devices and related software, including security software, for 94 in-scope organizations.

The Workplace Technology Devices (WTD) initiative is preparing to deliver on Shared Service Canada’s (SSC) mandate to consolidate these procurement activities, thereby leveraging economies of scale and reducing duplication. SSC is also mandated to explore how support services (including help desk and desk-side IT support) for workplace technology devices can be modernized.

SSC processes are being developed to:

  • consolidate hardware and software procurement; and
  • modernize the delivery of WTD support services.

Over the next five years, these processes will be rolled out to partner organizations across the Government of Canada.

This project is part of Economic Action Plan 2013, which projected annual savings of $8.7 million, beginning in 2014–2015. In the process, efficiencies will strengthen the security of government information technology.
